Barcelona has a large selection of restaurants and cafés, however as with any major tourist centre, it can often be quite hit and miss, with many eateries in the ‘tourist-trap’ parts of the city offering mediocre food at astronomical prices. Dinner starts late in Barcelona, so don’t be turned off by a place if it is empty at 7 or 8 o’clock – most restaurants don’t fill up until closer to 10pm.

People looking for cheap food are advised to go for tapas or look for the smaller, low cost restaurants offering tasty, home-cooked food. For an exquisite dining experience, the Via Veneto is an award winning restaurant serving authentic Catalan dishes – although the menu is not cheap, some things are worth splashing out on.
